Four Disneyland® Hotel Must-Dos

Heading to Disneyland® Hotel? You’re in for a magical time! This deluxe Disneyland® Resort Hotel is located right next to the Downtown Disney® District and a few minutes’ walk from the monorail and the main entrances to Disneyland® Park and Disney California Adventure® Park. But the hotel is an attraction as well. Here are Four must-dos at the Disneyland Hotel… and they don’t even require a theme park ticket!

One: Visit Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar.
People don’t expect one of the most interesting things at a Disney resort to be a bar. But most bars aren’t like Trader Sam’s. This Imagineer-designed tribute to everything Adventureland is like a blend of the Enchanted Tiki Room and the Jungle Cruise’s staff breakroom. And their bar menu of tiki-inspired drinks includes some very showy standouts, like the Krakatoa. Order this drink and be prepared for the lights to turn red, the tranquil island in the window to erupt into a volcano, and lava to rain down upon the bar. (Cold lava, that is.)

Two: Take the Happiest Hotel on Earth Tour.
Got an hour? Love Disney history? The Happiest Hotel on Earth Tour is a free tour, offered twice a week, that takes you through the history of the Disneyland Hotel which has been in operation since 1956. The tour also includes special looks at the hotel’s current theming, created during a recent rehabilitation after the Walt Disney Company purchased the hotel. You’ll see how Adventureland, Fantasyland, Frontierland, and Tomorrowland are all well-represented through design, horticulture, and even pieces from the Disney Archives to create a hotel that truly celebrates everything about Walt Disney’s dream.

Three: Slip and Slide Down the Monorail Slides.
After all, when else can you take a ride down the monorail track in your bathing suit? The vintage Disneyland sign atop two monorail trains is the centerpiece of Disneyland Hotel’s extensive pool and gardens complex, and beneath the curtain of water flowing from the sign, you’ll find the stairs to ride this tribute to Walt Disney’s monorail system. It’s an e-ticket attraction right at your resort!

Four: Explore the Tower Lobbies.
The three towers of the Disneyland Hotel are filled with concept art, attraction models, and other tributes to the design of the original Disney park. You’ll also find bonus memorabilia in the convention center, including an Autopia car for photos and a huge glass case filled with trinkets, archival items, and memories from nearly sixty years of Disneyland Hotel Cast Members.

With so much Disneyana and history to be found at the Disneyland Hotel, you’ll want to explore the hotel just as much as you will the fun at the theme parks. And as for those comfortable chairs by the pool and the poolside dining service… well, don’t forget to go to the parks altogether, okay?
