The Ultimate in Relaxation at Sea

After a few days of fun in the sun where better to head for relaxation than the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy’s impressive Senses Spa & Salon? And with a total of twenty-one treatment rooms you might just be in luck and receive one boasting an ocean view. With a long list of luxurious services including many types of massage, body treatments, facials, and hydrotherapy, the usual suspects such as a Swedish Massage, Hot Stone Massage, and Elemis Facial are always available. But something unusual like the Bamboo Massage just might fit the bill. While you soak in essential oils, warmed bamboo sticks are rolled, slid, and massaged over your muscles, and, depending on your preference, done in either a deep tissue technique or with gentle strokes. There is a bit of awkwardness here and there when the bamboo just doesn’t work well on certain parts of the body, but all in all a great massage. And since I’ve heard it can be slightly uncomfortable if you’re on the thin side, I recommend scheduling your massage like I do after a few days of indulgence onboard.

Other good choices are wrap treatments performed on a dry float bed (you’ve got to try this!) for a feeling of weightlessness. Showers available in each of these treatment rooms are ideal preparation for an additional massage. The Ionithermie Cellulite Reduction treatment comes with a guaranteed inch loss, another perfect choice after days of overeating.

For the ultimate in pampering book a Spa Villa where couples enjoy a private treatment room for side-by-side massages and an outdoor veranda complete with whirlpool tub and shower, strawberries and champagne, a tea ceremony, and grand ocean vistas. Or for a more run-of-the-mill retreat there’s a 50-minute Couple’s Swedish Massage in a standard room with two treatment tables. Don’t forget that a Couple’s Massage can also be had in one of the Disney Castaway Cay cabanas on the adults-only beach.

The best deal around for a mere $16 per day is The Rainforest Room, a coed thermal suite where guests luxuriate in a Hammam (Turkish steam bath), a Caldarium (steam room), and Laconium (dry sauna). In the solarium relaxation area soak in one of two hydropools and relax on heated ceramic lounging beds, all with gorgeous ocean views. There are even four sensory showers, each with their own theme, scent, and sound (Rainforest, Water Fun, Tropical Thunder, and Cool Mist). Better yet, because it’s limited to only thirty-five people per day, it’s quite often practically empty of people.

Even the younger set gets in on the action at Chill Spa, an area of Senses specifically for teens with two treatment rooms offering such indulgences as a Hot Chocolate Wrap, Surfer’s Scrub, Fabulous Fruity Facial, and Ice Cream Manicure and Pedicure. And if you want to find something to do with your teenager think about reserving either a Mother/Daughter or Father/Son massage.

Both the men’s and women’s locker rooms have a sauna room and a before and after-treatment relaxation room. Salon and nail services are available as is barbershop services. Even teeth whitening can be performed at Smile Spa.

So do yourself a favor and plan ahead for one of Disney Cruise Line’s most relaxing treats.
