The Last Great Escape

“A man should never neglect his family for business.” Walt Disney

Are you looking to truly get away from it all? In today’s hectic world it is almost impossible to actually break away from the constant emails, texts and calls that bombard our families. Vacations are no longer a break from reality but rather a change of scenery if you are still constantly chained to your devices.

Happily, there is still one last great family escape… a Disney cruise. My family just spent a glorious week vacationing on the Disney Fantasy®….sailing the Western Caribbean in style. It was by far one of the best family vacations we have ever taken.

As we boarded the ship and the kids explored the stateroom, my husband and I both turned off our cell phones, iPads and laptops and happily stowed them away in the stateroom safe where they stayed for the entire week. I felt the stress melting away as we left the “real world” behind and began our adventure.

Without interruption from the outside world, we spent the entire week playing together as a family. We spent our days exploring the Caribbean islands, lounging by the pool and riding the AquaDuck water coaster, seeing world-class shows in the Walt Disney Theater, meeting all of our favorite Disney characters, treating ourselves to soft serve ice cream on the pool deck… whatever struck our fancy! No interruptions, no pressure. Just good old fashion fun.

As an added bonus, the kids wanted to spend a few hours a day enjoying the activities at Disney’s Oceaneer Club and Disney’s Oceaneer Lab, two of Disney’s Youth Areas, where they could read a story with Snow White or fly away to Never Land with Peter Pan, giving my husband and me a few hours of luxurious relaxation on the adult pool deck and a romantic dinner at the adult-only restaurant Palo.

There was even a night where the entire ship transformed into a Pirate ship and everyone joined in the fun. Kids, characters and parents all put on their “Pirate” best for a night of swashbuckling fun that culminated with the only fireworks show at sea!

So the next time you start thinking of throwing your phone out the window and wishing you could escape the pressures of everyday life… you might want to consider gathering up your crew, unplugging from the world and setting sail on one of the beautiful Disney cruise ships to begin your own family adventure!
